Aristida curtissii (A. Gray) Nash. Common name: Curtiss's Three-awn. Phenology: Jul-Oct. Habitat: Roadsides, disturbed areas, bare eroding soil. Distribution: ME west to WY, south to n. FL, AR, OK, and CO, perhaps largely or adventive east of the Mississippi River.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: See Allred (1986) for a discussion of the rationale for reducing A. curtissii to a variety of A. dichotoma. Cronquist (1991) reduces it to a variety of the more western A. basiramea Engelmann ex Vasey. For now, and for simplicity, I prefer to retain the two as species.
