not marked as a favorite taxon Dryopteris clintoniana (D.C. Eaton) Dowell. Common name: Clinton's Woodfern, Broad Swamp Fern. Phenology: Jun-Sep. Habitat: Acid seepages, swampy forests, red maple swamps. Distribution: New Brunswick, Québec, and Ontario, south to Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland (Somerset Co.), n. Virginia (Arlington and Fairfax counties), Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Reports from Georgia are based on the misapplication of the name to Dryopteris goldieana by McVaugh & Pyron (1951).

Taxonomy Comments: This species is a fertile allohexaploid derived from hybridization of Dryopteris cristata and Dryopteris goldiana; its chromosome complement is symbolized GGLLSS.
