not marked as a favorite taxon Urochloa fusca (Swartz) B.F. Hansen & Wunderlin var. reticulata (Torrey) B.F. Hansen & Wunderlin. Common name: Browntop Signalgrass. Phenology: May-Oct. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Oklahoma and Arizona south through Texas, south through Mexico to tropical America; eastwards as an adventive.

ID notes: This variety is alleged to differ in its smaller, more compact panicles and larger spikelets (2.4-3.4 mm long) vs. the larger, more open panicles and smaller spikelets (2.0-2.5 mm long) in U. fusca var. fusca), although apparent intergradation is reported (Wipff and Thompson 2003b).
