Anemone virginiana Linnaeus var. virginiana . Section: Anemone. Subsection: Virginianae. Tall Anemone, Thimbleweed. Phen: May-Aug. Hab: Rich forests and woodlands, prairies, especially prevalent on circumneutral soils. Dist: NL (Newfoundland), ME, s. ON, and SK, south to GA, AL, MS, LA, OK, and WY.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Two other varieties are more northern; see discussion of var. alba.
