Rosa acicularis Lindley ssp. sayi (Schweinitz) W.H. Lewis. Prickly Rose. Phen: May-Jun. Hab: Rocky forests. Dist: NS west to AK, south to MA, NY, MI, nw. IL, IA, SD, NM, AZ, and BC; disjunct in WV (Cronquist 1991; Harmon, Ford-Werntz, & Grafton 2006).

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: Ssp. acicularis is Eurasian and in AK.
