Quercus coccinea Münchhausen. Subgenus: Quercus. Section: Lobatae. Subsection: Coccineae. Scarlet Oak. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Nov (of the second year). Hab: Xeric upland forests. Dist: Centered in the Appalachians, from s. ME south to c. AL, but ranging west to MS, ne. AR (Crowleys Ridge), s. IL, and s. MI.
