*Cucumis anguria Linnaeus var. longaculeatus J.H. Kirkbride. Common name: West Indian Gherkin. Phenology: Jul-Oct. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Africa. Reported for GA (Jones & Coile 1988), FL (Wunderlin & Hansen 2003, as C. anguria), and AL (Diamond & Woods 2009, as C. anguria).

Origin/Endemic status: Subsaharan Africa

Synonymy : = FNA6, K4, NcTx, POWO, Kirkbride (1993); < Cucumis anguria L. — Fl2, NE, NS, S, Tx, WH3, Schaefer (2007). Basionym: Cucumis anguria L. var. longaculeatus J.H.Kirkbr. 1993
