Key to Polypogon

A genus of about 18 species, annuals and perennials, of tropical and warm temperate regions. Röser & Tkach (2024) proposed that the goal of monophyletic genera in Pooideae would best be served by the inclusion of Polypogon in Agrostis; an alternate approach would involve splitting of Agrostis. Peterson, Soreng, & Romaschenko (2025) assert that Polypogon is a result of hybridization between Agrostis and Calamagrostis, which would preculde its inclusion in Agrostis unless Calamagrostis were also included.
