A genus of about 25-50 species, annual and perennial herbs, pantropical and less commonly temperate.
ID notes: The large, adnate stipules are distinctive. Stylosanthes fruits are loments with 2 segments, the terminal almost always fertile, and terminated by the persistent style, the lower often abortive.
