Eryngium aquaticum Linnaeus. Common name: Marsh Eryngo. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Tidal freshwater to brackish marshes; slightly inland in wet peaty pine savannas over calcareous substrates. Distribution: NY (Staten Island) and NJ to ne. FL along the Atlantic coast; Gulf Coast of FL Panhandle, s. AL, and s. MS.

Flowers: Flowers in dense, compact, thimble-shaped heads surrounded by a whorl of large, spiny-toothed bracts; pale blue; tiny; consisting of 5 minute petals, 5 stamens and a divided style.
