Crataegus keeslingii Witsell & R. Lance. Common name: Small-leaf Ouachita Hawthorn. Phenology: Apr; Oct-Nov. Habitat: Brushy woodlands, rocky ridges and slopes. Distribution: Endemic to the Ouachita Mountain region of AR.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Occasionally sympatric with C. ouachitensis, but leaves differ in being dimensionally broader, densely villous in spring and with an occasional lateral main vein extending to a sinus. Assumed an interserial hybrid of C. ouachitensis and C. marshallii, which renders the original varietal status incorrect. See Witsell & Lance (2024) for detailed discussion of taxonomy, morphology, habitats, and conservation status.
