*Dracaena Linnaeus. Common name: Sansevieria, Dragon Tree.
A genus of about 120 species, perennial herbs, shrubs, and trees, mainly of Africa. The genus Sansevieria is probably best subsumed into Dracaena, based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence (Bos 1984; Bos in Kubitzki 1998a; Lu & Morden 2014; Mabberley (2017); Christenhusz, Fay, & Byng 2018; Takawira-Nyenya et al. 2018). Sansevieria is embedded in Dracaena but is a monophyletic clade, and alternative treatments may involve its recognition, with Dracaena split into monophyletic groups.
