Neltuma glandulosa (Torrey) Britton & Rose var. prostrata (Burkart) C.E. Hughes & G.P. Lewis. Common name: Running Mesquite. Phenology: Mar-Sep. Habitat: Deep sand deposits. Distribution: S. TX and adjacent Mexico (TAM).
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Var. prostrata was discussed by Johnston (1963) and named by Burkart (1976). It is maintained (transferred to Neltuma) by Hughes et al. (2022a) and we recognize it here. While some consider it a mere ecological form, it co-occurs with var. glandulosa but they maintain their integrity and distinction (Burkart 1976; Johnston 1962).
