Lachnocaulon anceps (Walter) Morong. Common name: Common Bogbuttons. Phenology: May-Oct. Habitat: Moist to dry sands, moist peats, in pinelands, sometimes locally abundant in open disturbed areas where competition has been removed. Distribution: S. NJ south to s. FL, west to se. TX; rarely disjunct inland off the Coastal Plain, as in ec. TN; West Indies (Cuba).

Intro: Erect, tufted perennial of moist to dry sands and moist peats in pinelands, sometimes locally abundant in open disturbed areas where competition has been removed.
Stems: Stems 1-several thin flowering scapes, ridged lengthwise and twisted in a spiral; covered with long, spreading hairs.
Leaves: Leaves basal and forming a mounded clump, linear and tapering to a point, 1-2 1/2 in. long, smooth or hairy.

Flowers: Flowers in compact, button-like heads (domed or slightly flattened) about 1/4 in. wide topping each stem; white or grayish-white; tiny and hairy.
