*Melia azedarach Linnaeus. Chinaberry, Carolina Mahogany, Umbrella-tree, Pride-of-India, White Cedar, Persian Lilac, Canelón, Paraíso. Phen: Apr-May; Sep-Oct. Hab: Disturbed areas, abandoned rural yards and fields; commonly cultivated in our area (mainly in the Coastal Plain) and commonly escaped. Dist: Native of se. Asia (Indomalesia).

Origin/Endemic status: E. and se. Asia

Other Comments: The fruits are sometimes used as beads; they are very poisonous if ingested.
