Lobelia spicata Lamarck. Common name: Pale Spiked Lobelia, Palespike Lobelia, Highbelia. Phenology: Late May-Aug. Habitat: Meadows, woodlands, disturbed areas. Distribution: NS west to AB, south to GA, AL, MS, LA, OK, and MT.

Stems: Stems slender, angular, with rough hairs near the base; spreads by basal offshoots.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, mostly sessile, narrowly oval to lance-shaped, to 4½ in. long, often with widely spaced teeth.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in a dense terminal spike, each on an ascending stalk flanked by 2 bracts; pale blue to white; about ½ in. long; bilaterally symmetric and tubular; opening to 2 lips, the upper lip split into 2 narrow, erect lobes and separated by a tube of fused, grayish anthers, and the lower lip divided into 3 wider lobes.

Fruits: Fruit an oval to round capsule.
