Carex radfordii Gaddy. Section: [26bb] Section 19 Laxiflorae. Radford's Sedge. Phen: May-Jun. Hab: Very nutrient-rich, moist cove forests in the Blue Ridge Escarpment region, over calcareous or mafic rocks (especially along the Brevard Fault). Dist: Endemic to the Blue Ridge Escarpment of sw. NC, nw. SC, and ne. GA.

Origin/Endemic status: Endemic

Other Comments: See Gaddy (1995) for additional information. Naczi (1999b) reports a different chromosome number for C. radfordii (n = 23) than for the related C. purpurifera (n = 17, 18, 19).
