not marked as a favorite taxon Campanula divaricata Michaux. Common name: Southern Harebell, Appalachian Bellflower. Phenology: Jul-Oct; Sep-Dec. Habitat: Rock outcrops, cliffs, rocky summits, talus, up to at least 1850m. Distribution: A broad endemic of the Southern and Central Appalachians: MD and KY south to AL and GA.

Stems: Stems smooth, slender, with spreading-drooping branches; often grows in clumps.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, short-petiolate to sessile, lance-oval, to 3 in. long, coarsely toothed.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers numerous in a loose, open panicle; pale blue-violet on dangling stalks, bell-shaped, consisting of 5 petals with recurved tips, a cup-shaped (green) calyx tube with 5 spreading narrow lobes and a protruding style.

Fruits: Fruit a tiny top-shaped capsule.

Comments: A southern and central Appalachian endemic.

Height: 8-30 in.
